It was a magical mystery tour for members – with no clues as to the day’s destination.

But a high-spirited band of adventurers from Inverness Men’s Shed were not left disappointed after a wonderful day out on a colourful vintage MacBrayne’s bus.

Organised by retired policeman Robbie Smart, members hopped on board the bus at the men’s shed premises off Victoria Drive in Inverness another ex-cop John Angus MacDonald at the wheel.

With Covid having had such an impact on so many, the trip was seen as a positive means of encouraging some members to get back out and about as they used to.

Mr Smart said: “Our happy little band of adventurers hopped on board and headed off into the unknown.

“The bus owners of the bus were extremely generous in helping us with costs. It was a mystery tour as I didn’t tell them where they were going, although I did tell the driver!

“We had a fantastic day out, visiting the very interesting Nairn Museum. Then, in blazing sunshine we made our way to the Nairn Men’s Shed at the railway station where our hosts made us so welcome.

“After a fantastic picnic lunch, courtesy of Charles and Dolina Reid, we motored down to the Nairn links for a beach stroll and an ice cream.

“Our trip home via Cawdor was magnificent, with scenery of the highest quality. It was a great day for everyone and we never stopped laughing. The unanimous verdict was that this outing must be repeated, although no matter what is arranged in the future, it will remain a mystery!”

The friendship group has met for a number of years now and welcomes new members, with Mr Smart adding: “I call it a youth club for seniors. We meet for an hour on a Thursday, have a speaker, a quiz, cup of tea and cake, and we have a blether and put the world to rights.”
