The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland has revealed the three endangered Amur tiger cubs born at Highland Wildlife Park in May are two girls and a boy.

Keepers and veterinary staff at the wildlife conservation charity carried out the nine-week old cubs’ first health check this week and say the trio, who are doing well, will be named soon.

The youngsters remain in an off-show cubbing den with mum Dominika at the moment while visitors can still see dad Botzman in the outdoor viewing area at the park.

Anyone planning to visit Highland Wildlife Park must book tickets in advance at highlandwildlifepark.org.uk/we-are-open as visitor numbers are still limited for everyone’s safety.

The three cubs were born in May 2021 to mum Dominika and dad Botzman

Dominika has been a very attentive mother, staff said.

As well as being part of the endangered species breeding programme for Amur tigers, with Dominika giving birth to a previous litter in 2013, the charity has supported tiger conservation in Nepal by developing methods to evaluate tiger diets within the RZSS WildGenes laboratory based at Edinburgh Zoo.

Vickie Larkin, carnivore team leader at Highland Wildlife Park said earlier: "There are just 500 Amur tigers remaining in the wild, so our adorable cubs represent an important contribution to the future of this endangered species which is at risk of extinction due to extensive habitat loss and poaching.”
