Over 200 people gathered at Culloden Battlefield in Inverness today to mark the 278th anniversary of The Battle of Culloden.
Organised by the National Trust for Scotland, a commemoration service was led by the Gaelic Society of Inverness at the memorial cairn. The services first took place at the memorial cairn in 1925 and have continued, in one form or another, to this day. This year’s service included the laying of wreaths as people remembered their clans.
Events will continue throughout the day, and tonight a ceilidh will take place to raise funds for charities to preserve the history.
The fundraising ceilidh will take place at The Chieftain Hotel with over 80 guests set to attend.
