A ‘Picnic in the Park’ is being planned to help the Nairn community celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The event which will be held at Viewfield, will incorporate community stands, local entertainment, a candy floss stall, a small fairground ride and a face painter. Picnics are being encouraged but there will be the opportunity to enjoy food from caterer Seasonal Flavour.

The celebration which will take place on June 5 from midday to 4pm is being organised by members of the community from the following groups and businesses: Nairn Rotary Club, Nairn Museum, Ashers, The Havelock and Nairn BID.

George Asher, Lord-Lieutenant for Nairnshire said: “I’m delighted that a number of people from various organisations have come together to create an event to celebrate The Queens Platinum Jubilee weekend. It will mean we have a local community event free for everyone who wants to join in. All over the country there will be events and Nairn will be part of this.

“We are keeping it simple and are liaising with local musicians, choirs, singing groups and performers to ask if they will perform, we have support from the Nairn Fire & Rescue Service who are lending us the trailer they use as their Santa sleigh so we can use that as a stage. We have received in kind and financial support from Gordon Timber, The Havelock, Nairn Rotary Club, Nairn Museum and Ashers has also made a contribution.”

Publicity for the event is being co-ordinated by Nairn BID and all the information about the event will be shared via the Nairn BID Facebook page and its website.

Lucy Harding, manager of Nairn BID said: “Nairn BID is delighted to be helping to bring this event to Nairn. What is wonderful about these types of events is that they only serve to remind you what a great community spirit we have in Nairn. There are so many ways that different parts of the community are getting involved whether it be the loan of equipment or getting up on stage to form part of the entertainment.”

Lucy added: “As well as this event, Nairn BID would be delighted to promote other activities that are taking place as part of the Jubilee celebrations. If you are organising something and want help in spreading the word about it, please just let us know.”
