An Inverness pensioner is appealing for help with her cat’s medical treatment after discovering that her monthly pet plan does not cover the cost of an X-ray.

Marie MacIver’s five-year-old cat Charlie has a painful leg and needs the scan to determine what treatment can be given.

However, Mrs MacIver, who relies on disability benefit, is unable to afford the X-ray, which will cost about £300.

She has now contacted the media in a plea for kind-hearted Invernessians to come forward.

"There is no way I can afford to pay for the X-ray," she said.

"Since it’s very difficult for me to get out, I have already had to pay for the vet to come to the house and give Charlie a medical, as well as a bottle of anti-inflammatories which cost £29 and did nothing.

"I already pay £10 a month for a pet plan but it doesn’t seem to cover anything.

"I have tried everywhere to get help with the vet’s bills – the PDSA, RSPCA and Cats Protection, but I haven’t been able to get help from anywhere.

"I hate to see him in pain and I think it’s getting worse.

"It came out of the blue about a month ago, and now it is just not going away."

Mrs MacIver lives alone with Charlie and says she has a special bond with her little cat.

"He’s my companion and is often the only company I have," she said.

"He sleeps on my bed and follows me into the kitchen, and he seems to know not to stray too far from the house because I need him.

"He’s really more like a dog than a cat.

"I try my best to take care of him but things like this are very difficult, and it is such a shame because he is a lovely little cat.

"I need to help Charlie get better."
