Drakies residents are looking forward to their own party in the park this weekend, to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Organised by Rhona Brindle and Amanda Dunn the event grew out of their thinking about the things they had missed during the pandemic and a wish to bring the community together.

“We wanted to create an event for the community to get connected again, and for people to celebrate together,” Ms Dunn said.

“The jubilee seemed like the perfect opportunity and it’s Covid safe as its outdoors.

“We have hopscotch entertainment, one of the local dads’ is running football, and prizes for all the games.”

With support from Drakies Community Council the pair have organised a jam-packed programme of entertainment for tomorrow (Saturday) at Grebe Community Park.

Ms Brindle said: “We have a BBQ, homebaking, stalls, a bouncy castle, a disco, cheerleaders and so much more.”

Ms Dunn added: “We wanted to create an event for the community to get connected again, and for people to celebrate together.”

Guide groups, Rainbows and Brownies will all be running stalls at the event and all are welcome to bring along a picnic blanket and join in the fun from noon-4pm.

The event is being supported with a budget from Drakies Community Council and £500 from the Highland Council discretionary fund.
