Earlier this year all spaces for disabled drivers at the Glenurquhart Road offices were moved to the front.

But the 14 spaces were deemed “excessive” and sparked complaints of too little general visitor parking.

It also meant fewer spaces for public parking outwith office hours for the new pay and display system launched in January.

Just two months later the council agreed to slash the number of disabled bays to seven, but the lines were not re-painted, meaning the general spaces remained the same large size of disabled bays.

This week workers were seen re-painting bays, allowing for an extra three spaces for visitors plus pay and display.

A council spokeswoman said: “With the introduction of parking enforcement at council’s headquarters in Inverness initially all the existing disabled parking spaces that were previously located around the car park were re-located to the front of the building where there are lowered kerbs and access to reception.

“There was a perception that the number of disabled parking allocations had increased. This was not the case.

“Since then the demand for the number of disabled spaces has been reviewed and seven spaces from the front of the building have been re-allocated for general parking.”
