CONCERN for a paddle boarder blown offshore near a Black Isle beauty spot triggered the launch of a lifeboat earlier today.

The RNLI Kessock crew were paged by UK Coastguard at 11.41pm to help the paddle boarder who was reported by a member of the public to be in difficulty off Rosemarkie beach.

She was being blown offshore by a south-westerly breeze described as being Force 3-4.

The crew assembled and made contact with the casualty, bringing her and her equipment onto the lifeboat.

After establishing she was safe and well, she was returned to herfriends on the beach with assistance from HM Coastguard – Highland.

Helm Jon Ashburner said: “Today’s casualty was well equipped with a wetsuit and buoyancy aid. She did the right thing by remaining on her board while waiting for assistance.”

He said: “The RNLI advise the public to avoid paddle boarding from beaches with an offshore wind, particularly if inexperienced. You can check tide tides online on free apps so remember to plan your adventure and take a mobile in a waterproof case so that you can call 999 for help via the Coastguard should the conditions change and you find yourself in difficulty”.
