Fans of the soon to close Ironworks have been paying tribute after its leading force spoke exclusively to the Inverness Courier.

Ironworks director Caroline Campbell told the Inverness Courier she was left with feelings of pride seeing the reaction news of its closure – to make way for a new city centre hotel – has already had.

After we posted the story online it was met with yet another wave of tributes ahead of the final gigs – by Twin Atlantic and Elephant Sessions – this Friday and Saturday.

Amongst almost 100 comments left on Facebook Kirstie Wilson said: "One of the greatest venue teams I’ve had the pleasure of working with as a promoter.

"Absolutely love Caroline and sending them all so much love and hope for finding a new home x"

Jamie Stirking said: "Sad for the city but I hope Caroline and co will find a new home for music in Inverness soon. Nothing compares."

There were more words of love for the whole team behind the venue from James Bain who posted: "A fantastic local venue with top welcoming and attentive staff who are clearly music fans.

"I tip my hat to Caroline, the entire team and all the bands who have graced this fantastic venue for their unwavering support of quality music. Devastated to be losing this venue, a sad day."

Fraser Morrison said: "A big loss not only to Inverness town centre, which already has precious little else going on and also to the wider Highlands with no similar type/size of venue anywhere else."

Andrew Grant was forceful in his comments: "A huge loss to the Highlands and I still can’t believe this is actually happening – it’s madness!"

And Niall Gordan said: "I think someone has shot themselves in the foot with this decision – many folk travelled distances great and small to attend gigs there... another hotel is NOT the same."
