Port of Inverness chairman Angus Mackenzie is to step down at the end of January, ending an 11-year association.

Mr Mackenzie became a trustee in 2010 and took over as chairman in 2014.

A former partner in Ernst & Young who went on to develop his own business interests, Mr Mackenzie also spent some time on the board of Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

Under his leadership as chairman, the port has become a major player in the renewable energy market and developed strong links with existing port users and has been able to enhance its facilities whilst reducing overall borrowings.

More recently the port has put in place various measures to deal with the impact of the global Covid pandemic and the implications of Brexit.

New chairman George Macleod will take on the role with effect from February 1.

A board member since in 2018, Mr Macleod has an extensive international background in shipping and the maritime industry.

Mr Macleod commented: “The trustees and stakeholders are grateful for the drive and enthusiasm which Angus has brought to the Port of Inverness in his time as trustee and chairman.

"He leaves a legacy of continued growth in all areas of the port’s business, a stable and healthy balance sheet and a business development plan which stands the port in a very good strong position moving forward. Angus’s leadership through these past 11 years has left the port in an enviable position in the industry moving forward as we move to the next phase of developments and expansion of the port and its facilities. We look forward to continuing the growth and success of the port and wish Angus a very happy and healthy retirement.”
