Volunteers are being invited to join members of Nairn Allotments Orchard Group on Saturday (March 26) between 10am and 12 noon to plant fruit trees on the cemetery brae near Boath Park.

The project is in association with Keep Nairn Colourful and Green Hive. Organiser Des Scholes said people are invited to bring a spade and if they want they can bring along a tree of their own to plant.

A spokesperson for the Orchard Group revealed they have been approached by Mary Heggie who has offered fruit trees from Tom's allotment at Sandown to the orchard.

"It would be an excellent opportunity to have a physical reminder of Tom on the brae, they are a reasonable size and we think we can get at least two out and down for the event.

"This kind offer adds an extra dimension to something that was already building up to be a memorable event and we are delighted to accept them.

"It promises to be a happy social occasion and the trees and the fruit they produce will be there free to the public for generations to come."
