Contractors working for Openreach will be in Church Street in Inverness on Monday.

Highland Council is advising motorists, residents and businesses using the area that the urgent work will be carried out.

They will be next to the former Asher’s Bakery premises and the location has been affected by subsidence and, as a result, the excavation works could result in complications arising.

Work is programmed to be carried out overnight and will begin at 8pm on Monday with an anticipated completion time of 6am the following morning – pending excavations.

A council spokesman said: "Noisy elements of the work will be carried out before 10:30pm with hand digging overnight.

"If the works are not completed (due to potential unforeseen causes of the subsidence) this may result in the road remaining closed for two to three days which could have implications for buses and delivery vehicles."

The council is liaising with Openreach on their works, Stagecoach, Inverness BID and local businesses.

• Should members of the public have queries about the works please contact Openreach here and for Stagecoach information visit here.
