The club, which took a two year hiatus due to covid restrictions, is aimed at children between 8-15 years old and hopes to get them involved in archaeology.

The open day on May 7 will be hosted at Raigmore Community Centre and is free to attend.

It will feature stalls and events including workshops, a stall which teaches kids archaeology techniques, a slideshow presentation and plenty of talks.

There will also be objects on display that the group have previously uncovered.

The group plans to meet once a month and do a range of activities including visiting museums, investigating archaeological sites and historic places, excavating and trying out traditional crafts.

Each year they head to Tarradale and do a dig of the ground to unearth hidden artefacts.

Leader of YAC, Doug Redwood, is looking forward to the return. He has been involved in YAC for six years after joining when he was a student.

He said: “I thought it would be a good thing to have a look at. When I started doing it I absolutely loved it and really enjoyed it.

“We are relaunching. I am now the official leader and recruiting new volunteers. We thought the best way would be to have an open day for folk to come along to to drum up new members.

“We’re aiming this to be a family day out and a lot of fun for all.”

Mr Redwood hopes to recruit new kids to join up so he can share his enthusiasm of archaeology, but also welcomes applications for volunteers to help out with running events and trips.
