A community-run shop is celebrating after it reached a new milestone - its first anniversary.

The Invermoriston Community Shop opened its doors on April 1 last year, bringing a long-vacant store back into use in the process.

And the team of volunteers behind the shop, which sits on the junction of the A82 and A887, have been marking the occasion with a number of celebratory offers.

As well as the first 30 customers through the door on Monday receiving a “small gift from us”, staff at the shop were also encouraging people to pop in between 11am and 1pm on April 1 for a piece of cake and a coffee “on us”.

There is also a 10 per cent off offer on Handmade in Invermoriston craft products all day on Monday.

“This weekend is not only Easter but our little shop’s first year anniversary,” said a spokesperson for the shop on its Facebook page. They added; “Oh my, it’s been a bit of a whirlwind kind of year! We have met some amazing people, formed friendships, rekindled old ones, met some fantastic people, seen most of our local community, and welcomed visitors from far and wide.

The shop is open between the hours of 7am and 5.30pm from Monday to Saturday, and from 9.30am to 4.30pm on Sundays.

It was set up last year with support from the Fort Augustus and Glenmoriston Community Company, which distributes funds from local renewable energy projects, and which provided a £32,000 grant to help the store open its doors.

Several members of the public have reacted online to news of the one-year anniversary,

Bryn Karlberg said: “Congrats to you all! Well done!!!”
