A new case of Covid-19 has been confirmed in the NHS Highland area.

One fresh case of Covid-19 has been confirmed in the NHS Highland area in the past 24 hours.

After two days with no positive tests the new case pushes the total number of cases confirmed within the health board area to 286.

Across Scotland there were 60 new confirmed cases reported in the past 24 hours – of which 39 were in the NHS Grampian area, where Aberdeen is currently subject to local lockdown restrictions as a result of a confirmed Covid-19 cluster in the city.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, NHS Orkney, NHS Shetland and NHS Eileanan Siar all continued their long run of days without any fresh positive tests.

NHS Tayside recorded one new case, to take its cumulative total to 1804.

There have been 18,950 positive tests for Covid-19 in Scotland since the start of the pandemic.

Nationally the number of people in hospital with the virus was down by one case – from 262 to 261 in the past day – as the number of those in intensive care fell from four to three.

Scotland further extended its number of days without a confirmed Covid-19 fatality –­ with the country reporting no known deaths from the virus for a 23rd day in a row.
