People are being given the chance to get to grips with biking at a free event taking place on the edge of Loch Ness.

As part of the celebrations around the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships coming to Scotland this year, Visit Inverness Loch Ness is hosting the day of activities at Drumnadrochit on April 15.

The Pedal Power: Discover More event aims to showcase active travel opportunities as well as taking a closer look at some of the trails on the doorstep.

There will be three e-bike tours – including one for women only, one mountain bike tour and the option to take a self-guided tour on waymarked routes.

Mountain bikes and e-bikes will be available for hire from the Loch Ness Hub in the village, with some available to book in advance.

The event, which takes place on the village green and at the hub, also includes a family-friendly treasure hunt, a pump track, food and drink stalls and bike maintenance.

It aims to offer something for all ages and to "increase the awareness of both active travel and the local trails that our epic destination has to offer, with a big push towards biking".

More information about the event is available at www.visitinvernesslochness.com/pedal-power

Robbie Clyde, head of EventScotland, said: “EventScotland is delighted to be supporting Pedal Power through the Community Cycling Fund which is enabling opportunities for more people to enjoy the benefits of cycling through a range of events and activity as we move closer to the inaugural 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships.”

To attend the Drumnadrochit event, you must book a free ticket on Event Brite via the website.

Places on the tours also need to be booked in advance as there will be limited bikes available on the day.

Anybody travelling to the event under their own steam will also get a free water bottle.
