Daniel Wemyss (26) was fined £1500 and ordered to pay his victim £250 compensation after admitting throwing a glass at Johnny Foxes.

Wemyss of Ashwood Grove, Inverness, threw the glass on February 10, striking his victim on the face and cutting his lip.

He also admitted resisting arrest after the incident.

Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood had deferred sentence for background reports.

Fiscal depute Robert Weir previously told the court that there had been an altercation between Wemyss and the other man.

"Wemyss made an attempt to throw the contents of his glass over him but threw the glass instead," he said.

Defence solicitor John MacColl said his client, who earned £4500 a month, was able to pay a substantial fine.

He told the court on Friday that he had two letters of reference including one from Wemyss’s employers and another from the head steward of Johnny Foxes which, he said, was something he had never heard of before.

Mr MacColl said the accused’s victim had been seen taunting him.

"I’m not saying there was any provocation, so the matter for compensation is a matter for your Lordship," he added.
