A man who sexually assaulted a girl has been spared a jail sentence.

Instead, Neil Teague (33), of Barvas on Lewis, was ordered to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work.

He previously admitted committing the offence in a house in Inverness on November 25, 2018 and sentence had been deferred for a background report.

Solicitor Gary Miller told Inverness Sheriff Court: “He is keen to address his underlying issues which will rehabilitate him and protect the public. He is assessed as not at imminent risk of reoffending. He accepts what he did was thoroughly wrong and must never happen again.”

Sheriff Margaret Neilson also placed Teague under social work supervision and on the Sex Offender’s Register for three years.

Teague was banned from contacting his victim, who was 15 at the time of the offence.
