It has emerged a footballer who bit another player on the ear during a match works as a nurse.

Defence solicitor Graham Mann told Inverness Sheriff Court his client Alexander Mackay's profession today.

"This makes it more bizarre behaviour but completely unacceptable," Mr Mann said.

"He can only explain it by the stresses in his life at the time.

"He blames no-one else."

Mackay (30) had previously admitted seizing Jordan Bowie by the neck and biting him on the ear to his injury and permanent disfigurement at the Culloden Playing Fields on August 14 last year.

Sentence was deferred for a background report and the full details of what happened are still to be narrated in court.

Mackay will appear on December 10.
