Number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Highlands nears 300

THE number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the Highlands increased by nine yesterday, new figures have shown.

A total of 297 cases of the virus have been recorded by NHS Highlands.

Some 170 people have tested positive across the whole of Scotland since yesterday, taking the national total to 12,097.

And 1571 people have died across the country since the outbreak began, a rise of 12 on the same point yesterday.

In the Highlands, the number of people being treated in hospital with suspected or confirmed Covid-19 increased from 36 to 41. And the number of people in intensive care is fewer than five.

Elsewhere in the north, NHS Grampian recorded another nine positive tests, for an overall tally of 898. Its hospitals were also treating 147 people in hospital for the disease, with 13 receiving treatment in intensive care.
