CHILD welfare advocates have slammed a "dangerous and predatory abuser" after he was jailed for rape and sex assaults in Inverness.

Connor MacKinnon (19) targeted two females, who cannot be named for legal reasons, between December 2017 and August 2018.

He raped a 15-year-old girl and also abused a young woman with learning difficulties.

He was imprisoned for the crimes when he appeared at the High Court in Edinburgh today.

Reacting to his sentence, a spokesman for NSPCC Scotland said: “MacKinnon is clearly a dangerous and predatory abuser whose attacks will have had a devastating impact on his victims.

“It’s vital that he receives effective treatment behind bars to reduce any continued risk he may pose on his release.

“NSPCC Scotland works in schools and in the community to prevent abuse and neglect and anyone worried about a child or about past abuse can contact our helpline to report concerns.”

Any adult concerned about the welfare of a child or young person can call the NSPCC helpline for free, 24/7, on 0808 800 5000. Children can call Childline at any time on 0800 1111.
