Police became suspicious when a Mercedes car behind their patrol vehicle was reluctant to pass them so they stopped it for a check.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that the 26-year-old driver, Xhefri Keta, of Nottingham Road, Nottingham was very nervous, was sweating despite the cold weather and his jaw was clenched.

Fiscal depute Shamielah Ghafar said the officers suspected him of having drugs and decided to carry out a search when he was stopped in Culloden Road, Inverness.

"In two white socks, they found 14 wraps of a white powder which tested positive for cocaine and £230 in cash," Ms Ghafar told Sheriff Robert Frazer.

Keta admitted possession of the drugs with intent to supply.

His defence solicitor Marc Dickson told the court: "He has been in custody since February 17 and has done the equivalent of an eight-and-a-half-month jail sentence.

"He had driven to the area to look for accommodation to spend a short time here. He sourced and purchased the cocaine for his personal use, but he accepts he may have provided some to others."

Sheriff Frazer ordered Keta to carry out 90 hours of unpaid community work.
