The rector of Millburn Academy in Inverness has tendered his resignation.

Johnny Croall, who has been with the school for 12 years, will not return to the post after the summer.

He told parents and carers in a letter yesterday.

It stated: "I wanted to let you all know that I will not be returning to my post after the summer and today have tendered my resignation.

"It has been an absolute privilege to be part of such a fantastic school and community for the past 12 years. Having given everything I can to my job, the decision to step away from the role has not been an easy one.

"Thank you for all your support throughout my headship, it has been a pleasure working with you, our incredible staff and amazing young people. Millburn Academy is a brilliant school and I will look back on my time here warmly.

"At this stage I am unable to confirm who will replace me but I will continue to work with all parties over the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition for August."
