Inverness man Malcolm Thomson has joined north-east builder Kirkwood Homes to lead its new timber frame business.

The addition of a timber frame offering to the Aberdeen-shire based business's portfolio reflects an increase in demand for its timber frame kits from both developers across Scotland and homeowners for self-build and home improvement developments post-Covid.

Helping to meet this demand, Kirkwood Homes is making a £2million investment to expand its manufacturing facilities at Sauchen to allow for a five-fold increase in capacity.

The firm is also investing in the latest digital machinery to deliver improved safety, quality and efficiencies across its production line, while driving down lead times.

Former Inverness Royal Academy pupil Mr Thomson (51), whose career in the UK timber industry spans 30 years, joins the business as business development director of Kirkwood Timber Frame with fellow new appointee Debbi Keatings becoming business development manager.

Mr Thomson said: “I am delighted to be joining as we launch Kirkwood Timber Frame at such an exciting time for construction.

"The Kirkwood brand is synonymous with quality, reliability and flexibility in delivering to every client’s exacting requirements, and we are confident that we will build on that successful reputation as we secure new opportunities to develop our external customer portfolio.

“We have an experienced, highly skilled team who fully understand the requirements, pressures and processes of homebuilders. We will be collaborating with small to large regional builders, contractors and developers, as well as making life easier for individual homeowners across every stage of their self-build journey.

“As we emerge from lockdown, so many of us are taking steps to extend and improve our homes. We are passionate about helping people create top quality, environmentally efficient homes that ultimately improve the quality of their lives. Our focus, expertise and suite of self build timber services are all designed to make the experience of bringing a dream home to life as simple and stress-free as possible.”
