THE north’s thriving energy sector is being encouraged to share stories of its success by entering the Highlands and Islands Business Awards.

Following the success of the Highlands and Islands Renewable Energy Awards earlier this year, energy companies from all sectors – not just renewables – are again being invited to set out applications showing how much they have achieved in the past year.

The invitation comes from Inverness Chamber of Commerce, which organises the awards as part of Highland Business Week – this year, running from Monday September 23 to Friday 27.

The chamber is keen to encourage applications from businesses in the energy sector across the dozen award categories and will be proactively promoting participation through its Open4Business Highlands and Islands (O4BH&I) programme.

The programme provides a free platform publicising major contracts and procurement opportunities across the region, bringing together project developers and local suppliers and service providers, not only in energy, but a range of sectors including construction, aquaculture and life sciences.

O4BH&I programme manager Sandra McCaughey said: “Through the initial phase of our O4B Programme we are seeing evidence of a strong, dynamic energy sector across the Highlands and Islands region, with significant opportunities for a diverse range of businesses to get involved.

“We have been impressed by the high calibre of the region’s energy supply chain and their ambitions to achieve growth aspirations.

“The Highland Business Awards is one of the ways in which Inverness Chamber of Commerce delivers value by connecting, representing and supporting businesses in the Highlands and Islands and participation in the awards is a great way for businesses in the energy sector to raise their profile, make connections and get involved in creating new business opportunities.”

The deadline for the awards is 5pm on Friday, August 9.

The award winners, including the overall winner, the Highland business of the year 2019, will be unveiled at the awards lunch at the Drumossie Hotel on Friday, September 27.
