FIREFIGHTERS and security staff serving the Highlands and Island airports are set for industrial action after a ballot among those in the Prospect Union.

No dates for the industrial action have been set, and the head of Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd (HIAL) said they are meeting the trade union this week to discuss a revised deal.

Inglis Lyon, HIAL managing director, said: “Prospect Union has confirmed that airport fire service and security members have voted in favour of industrial action.

"However, Prospect has not confirmed dates for industrial action, and we will provide an update once confirmation is received.

“We continue to explore different options to resolve the issue and will meet this week with the trade unions to discuss a revised proposal.”

There was an 81% Airport Fire Service vote with 56% prepared to take part in strike action, and 87% prepared to take part in action short of a strike.

The security staff ballot had an 80% turnout with 81% prepared to take part in strike action and 82% prepared to take part in action short of a strike.
