Despite rumours circulating online, the Tesco Ness-side store in Inverness will not be opening from 5am to 6am tomorrow exclusively for shoppers aged over 70.

Messages posted online said the popular Inverness supermarket was to open early for over-70s to allow those less able to get essential items during unprecedented demand due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) crisis.

Some said staff had even confirmed the news in-store however a spokesman for Tesco said: "We are hoping that we will be able to bring forward a national scheme to assist people.

"But at the current time there are no plans to introduce different policies in different stores around the nation. The store will be open at its usual, opening time to all customers. "
