Planners at Highland Council demanded NHS Highland submit a new planning application after noticing one of the areas included floodlighting.

The council also noted the NHS proposed that a former football pitch be laid with compacted tar planings rather than mesh laid over the grass as had previously been outlined.

Planners said: “The approved plans for this car park showed the use of Grassprotecta and no lighting.

“The proposed tar finish and floodlighting of this area is materially different from that approved, and will result in a greater visual impact which will need to be assessed.

“Therefore, we will need a new planning application for this amended proposal.”

The new application says the proposed LED floodlighting is “designed to have no impact on adjacent housing and helicopter landing.”

The bulk of the contract to lay out at least 200 new parking bays will continue while the changes are considered.

The £620,000 project is scheduled to finish in November and will increase the car park’s capacity to 1500. A grant from NHS Highland Endowment Board is paying for the new works.
