NHS Highland has been rewarded for its efforts to support carers in the workplace.

The health board has received a Carer Positive award for its efforts to create a working environment where carers are valued and have flexibility to balance their work and caring responsibilities.

NHS Highland chief executive Pam Dudek said: “We are delighted. We will continue to develop our policies to ensure colleagues across the organisation who combine caring responsibilities with their role in NHS Highland feel respected, valued and supported to work as flexibly as they require.”

The Carer Positive scheme is operated by Carers Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government.

In 2011, a Caring for Carers scheme was listed as one of the Scottish Government’s 10 manifesto commitments for carers. The aim is to recognise employers offering the best support, allowing workers the flexibility they need to deliver care at home.
