NHS Highland is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to assist with screening and directing people at the entrances to hospitals.

As lockdown eases and clinics start up again there will be an increase in patients and visitors arriving at hospitals and NHS Highland is hoping to attract more volunteers to assist to support the existing team.

Volunteer services manager Ian McConnell said: “We cannot underestimate the help that we have had over these past weeks from our volunteers and we are hoping to expand on that.

“One of the key tasks for volunteers has been to help us with screening as people come into the buildings. This could include identifying, collecting and transporting bags to wards within each hospital, or supporting important screening procedures at hospital entrances to manage flows of staff, patients and visitors.

“These tasks may involve some physical exercise throughout the day, so we would expect that volunteers have a reasonable level of mobility.

“Full PPE and training will be provided, as will regular infection prevention input from nurses. While most of this volunteer work will be based at Raigmore Hospital, we are keen to hear from people who are interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities in locations across Highland.

“Our volunteers are so important to us and over the years the support they have given us has been invaluable to the organisation. I look forward to talking to anyone who may be interested or is keen in finding out more.”

Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Mr McConnell on 01463 704867 or at Ian.mcconnell1@nhs.net to arrange an ‘expression of

interest visit’ that will allow them to see exactly what is involved.
