New Year revellers ready for return of the Red-Hot Highland Fling in Inverness

One of Scotland’s favourite television and radio presenters and incredibly funny stand-up comedians – Fred MacAulay – will be the host of this year's Red-Hot Highland Fling.
The Inverness Events and Festivals Working Group members are delighted to tell residents and visitors to Inverness that the event is due to return to the city’s calendar to give those attending the chance to welcome in 2023.
The Red-Hot Highland Fling is one of a series of experiences presented by Highland Council’s Inverness Events and Festivals Working Group which is financially supported by the Inverness Common Good Fund.
Making the announcement, The Provost of Inverness, Councillor Glynis Sinclair who is the chairwoman of the working group, said: “It is absolutely fantastic to see the city’s Hogmanay event back on the calendar to take us into 2023.
“This year’s event is going to be a real Highland Hooley with the bands, Tweed and Mànran entertaining the crowds throughout the night, with local favourites Torridon headlining the main event and taking the audience through to the bells at midnight.
“We want this year’s returning Red-Hot Highland Fling to be a real family occasion, with festivities starting at 8.30pm and going all the way through the bells until 12.30am. We want people to start talking about the event with friends and family and get the date in their diaries to come along and be part of the city party.”
This year’s event sees Fred MacAulay as host, and in-charge of keeping the evening running smoothly, in what will be his own unique style.
Speaking about his appearance at Inverness’ New Year event, he said: “Over the years I’ve been fortunate to host many Hogmanay celebrations. From Edinburgh Castle with Carol Smillie for BBC1, to Stirling Castle’s esplanade, but I’m absolutely buzzing to be coming to Inverness to welcome in 2023.
“Inverness is always a stopping off point whenever I tour and the audiences are always up for a good time. It’ll be a Highland spectacular and I’m excited to get my tartan trews/kilt on again. Which one I finally choose will be very much weather dependent.”
Tickets for this year’s free event will be limited and allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
Further details will be released in the forthcoming weeks regarding exact timings and how those wishing to attend the City of Inverness Hogmanay event can pick up their tickets.
