A new Jobcentre has opened in Inverness today.

It is part of the Plan for Jobs and is in Glendoe Terrace.

As a result jobseekers will have more access to support and the latest opportunities.

The new job centre will focus on helping customers over 25 by offering face-to-face tailored support.

Work coaches at the new site will join thousands of colleagues up and down the country at the forefront of the Government’s drive to get 500,000 people currently out of work into jobs by the end of June as part of the Way to Work campaign.

It has 26 work coaches and each will help local people looking for work in Inverness and surrounding area with one-on-one tailored support to find their next role.

It is one of the new temporary sites announced by DWP earlier this year, building on the existing 639 Jobcentres across the UK

Mims Davies MP, the Minister for Employment, said: “We know this has been a challenging time for many people and that’s why we’re boosting our DWP Jobcentre support in every community of the UK, including here in Inverness.

“Every customer benefits from having a dedicated work coach. They know the local jobs market and work with local businesses to match jobseekers to the latest opportunities.

“It’s brilliant to see our Plan for Jobs in action, from Kickstart to sector-based Work Academy Programmes, our work coaches are there to help people thrive and progress in work.”

Wesley Taylor Marriott, is one of those new recruits based at Glendoe Terrace Jobcentre, said: “As a work coach at DWP I get to speak to a diverse group of people who all face their own unique situations. I find it rewarding getting to know my customers personally and support them in their journeys back into work.

"My background before coming to DWP was in hospitality where I served food to people's tables. Now as a work coach I have the privilege of putting food on peoples tables.”

Karen Johnstone, the senior operations manager overseeing the new site, said: “We are delighted to be opening our new site at Glendoe Terrace. We are making a significant investment for our customers within the Inverness area.

"This will allow us to support more people into work by filling our employers vacancies quickly. This will in turn improve the lives of many people and their families living in the Inverness area.”
