Muir of Ord’s new £2 million convenience store will open tomorrow after months of redevelopment work in the heart of the village.

The purpose-built Co-op outlet was built in the grounds of the brand’s former store at Great North Road.

Supporting 15 jobs, the 3,000 sq ft premises is almost 750 sq ft larger than its predecessor.

Opening between 7am-10pm daily, the new store includes customer car parking, a free ATM, a fairtrade coffee dispenser – known as Ever Ground – and a bakery.

The firm is also promising an enhanced range and choice of goods with a focus on fresh, healthy products.

These will include meal ideas, everyday essentials, food-to-go, chilled beers and award winning wines, ready meals and pizzas, and free-from, vegan and plant-based products – including Co-op’s exclusive vegan range, GRO.

A new bakery range with a counter offering hot and cold food by Inverness baker Harry Gow will be available, with Amazon Lockers – for parcel collection– coming soon.

There will also be self-service tills.

The firm will also be promoting the Co-op membership programme which unlocks additional value through in-store offers and exclusive deals.

It sees members rewarded with two pence in every pound they spend on Co-op branded products, added to their own personal membership account balance.

Co-op also donates the same amount to local causes and community organisations.

A soft plastic recycle unit is also available in store for items including crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals and yoghurt pots, biscuit wrappers, pet food pouches – with all of Co-op’s own food packaging also recyclable.

Students who are TOTUM cardholders – the new name for NUS extra – and those with the Young Scot card, receive a 10 per cent discount off groceries at Co-op.

Co-op's store manager Martin Brant said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to launch Co-op’s newest store, and we are really looking forward to welcoming the community into their new, purpose-built Co-op.

“As well as being there to serve the community conveniently, we have an increased and enhanced range and choice to provide meal ideas for the evening and week ahead.

“The store has a great look and feel, and our aim is to operate at the heart of local life – we have worked to develop the range, choice, products and added services to create a really compelling offer to serve the community.”
