A POPULAR independent café in Inverness city centre will be expanding their reach at less than one year from its opening.

Whisk On Wheels (WOW) is the new unit that Whisk Away café will operate in Culloden, starting from Wednesday, May 25.

The caravan will offer cakes and hot drinks as well as savoury bites in what its owner Nyomi Dixon, sees as an effective mini-version of the café on Baron Taylor Street.

" I just like doing new ventures and projects. We have been looking for some time for a place where to have another café in Culloden because it's lacking that, but we haven't found available units that would want a catering business in them, so that's when I thought about getting a food truck or a caravan.

"It ended up as a caravan, which we converted into a food truck

"It's expanding on the business that I already have in town, which is going really well. This will allows us to add to the business and cater for events while having the facilities to cook food on site, rather than having to take it from the cafe.

Ms Dixon was in retail management before opening Whisk Away last year.

"At some point I decided that I wanted to do something for the community and myself," she said.

"Our plan is to run it as a miniature café in the caravan, with speciality coffee, tea, filled breakfast rolls, toasties, waffles and home baking. I though of this as an addition that we can offer.

"I am hoping that in Culloden will give locals in Culloden somewhere to go without having to travel to the centre for coffee and cake. Especially for the elderly and all the people that cannot travel as much.

"I hope that this will be a starting point and that it will let us be seen and help us progress towards setting up a café in Culloden."

Ms Dixon said she plans on opening Wednesday, May 25 at 8am until 2pm and from then doing these hours Monday to Friday in Culloden and then catering for events and fairs at weekends.
