A new "unexplained" sighting at Loch Ness was recorded last week – only a few days away from the biggest search of Loch Ness in more than 50 years.

The Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register shared on its website that the last sighting was reported by Manchester man Steve Valentine on August 17 as he and his family visited the area on their holidays.

The website reports: "Steve Valentine visiting from Urmston in Manchester was on holiday with his family when he saw something from the Deepscan boat as they were returning from a tour at around 1pm.

"He said: 'I just saw a black shape in the water. It was when we were returning to the dock near to Urquhart Castle. I lost sight of it when the boat turned, but managed to get a quick photo from a distance."

A zoomed-in image is available on the Register's page.

This is the fourth potential sighting on the Loch in 2023.

It comes only a few days before the Loch Ness Centre at Drumnadrochit and Loch Ness Exploration (LNE) are set to lead the biggest surface watch of Loch Ness in more than 50 years this weekend.
