Ancestral Name had relocated to new premises in the Victorian Market just days before the coronavirus lockdown kicked in.

It reopened last Saturday and Marnie Mackenzie, who runs the business, said she was looking forward to welcoming more customers to the new location.

The business was previously based in the Market Hall and has now moved into the Market Arcade – in what used to be Boarston Tartan.

Ancestral Name is a unique shop which researches the origin and history of customers’ surnames and presents the findings on a printed parchment that same day – as well as selling personalised, hand-crafted Scottish gifts.

Ancestral Name was awarded a We Are Good To Go certificate by VisitScotland ahead of reopening which recognised the fact that they had the right measures in place for customer safety.

Mrs Mackenzie said it represented a “stringent benchmark” and added: “It is a really high standard that they want.

“We are really proud to have it and we have tried really hard to make sure it’s as safe as it can be for the customer.”
