A Nairnshire-based animal rescue charity announced they are set to open their first charity shop in town.

Tia Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue, based at Easter Hardmuir Farm, are in the process of setting up a new charity shop to support their activity in the space formerly occupied by Wendy's Hooose.

The charity moved from its original Yorkshire headquarters to Nairnshire in 2022 and has since then installed new state-of-the-art kennels to host up to 60 dogs and organised a popular dog show.

Debra Rothery, Tia Rescue's funder, said the move is aimed at securing the economic sustainability of the charity.

She said: "We needed to start raising money. We started looking for options in autumn last year and when this one became available, we snapped it up.

"It's in a great position so hopefully that will help us get people in the town centre and parents from the school run.

"Everything has increased, and public liability has trebled this year. We just need a regular income to cover our running cost.

"We also want to sell good-quality dog treats and then have the charity shop on the side."

At the moment the charity is rehoming across the UK and currently hosts 28 dogs at the farm.

Back in England, the charity – which at one point hosted a hundred dogs – was running around 10 shops – with one still open in Pickering.

Tia Rescue's team is now looking for donations ahead of opening doors to the public, which they hope to deliver before Easter.

Clothes, bric-a-brac, books, small items of furniture and any good quality donation that can be sold can be dropped off at the farm any day before 4pm.
