COMMUNITY councils will find out if they are set to benefit or lose out on new funding arrangements at a meeting on Thursday.

Highland councillors will be asked to decide between three different structures for future funding which could be implemented from April 2012 and staggered over two years.

The three new formulae include providing each of the 156 community councils a core grant plus an additional amount per elector. Current arrangements have not been reviewed since 2002.

Inverness South community council is set to benefit regardless of which option is chosen, but other groups will have to await the decision to find out if it is good or bad news.

Meanwhile, community council elections are set to take place in November.
