The region’s newest town is continuing to take shape with the appointment of a well-known brand to run its first permanent full-time café.

Hospitality group Bubble and Goose is set to open Tornagrain’s Hillhead Café in August after a fit out of the premises.

With space for 24 guests and additional outdoor seating, the new café will be open initially from morning to late afternoon, with evening opening planned for later in the year.

Menus are currently under development and will include a full range of breakfast and lunch classics, and a wide selection of home-made cakes.

Pop-up events to introduce the café to local residents are planned in the run-up to opening.

Nicole Petrie, Tornagrain development manager, said: “We always planned for Tornagrain to have a fully-fledged high street, providing a real hub for the community. The opening of a friendly, welcoming café serving locally sourced delicious food in the neighbourhood centre is a key part of that plan which was delayed by the pandemic so we are now thrilled to be welcoming Bubble & Goose to Hillhead Café.”

Alistair Gordon, co-owner of Bubble and Goose, said: “We look forward to welcoming residents through our doors in the next couple of months.

“We are excited to have this opportunity to create a sociable, relaxed space to spend a couple of hours working while enjoying a coffee, or catching up with friends and family, while enjoying some quality food and drink.

“We have been operating throughout the local area for a number of years from our already established kitchen facilities, supporting large-scale projects in the oil and gas and renewable energy sector, as well as sports hospitality and private functions.

“In addition to food services, our Highland Mixology business provides a professional mobile bar and cocktail mixology service for customers throughout the Highlands. We plan to support the team at Tornagrain by combining our cocktails and drinks experiences to complement our evening menu, and we look forward to pulling it all together under the one roof.”

The first residents moved into Tornagrain in March 2017 and there are now around 500 residents. Facilities already up and running range from a pharmacy, allotments and a community hall to a nursery, tennis courts and a shop.
