A new book is set to showcase the rich and enthralling history of football in Inverness from 19th century early beginnings to the 21st century era of league and Scottish Cup glory.

The 124-page tome, Inverness Football Remembered, will be the product of a partnership between The Inverness Courier and the Inverness Football Memories Project.

Similar in style to the popular Inverness Remembered publication, it will feature more than 200 photos of players, teams and supporters down the years and it is hoped to publish in time for Christmas.

More than 400 photographs of colourful moments in the game’s local history have been gathered since the launch in May last year of the Football Memories Project, run by Inverness Caledonian Thistle Community Trust together with Clachnacuddin FC and High Life Highland.

Many are featured on the High Life Highland’s Am Baile website: www.ambaile.org.uk/inverness-football-memories/

The project is hoping to attract many more pictures before publication, with former players and supporters invited to email ambaile@highlifehighland.com by the end of July to advise of any they would like to feature in the book and seek guidance on how best to submit them.

Hard copies of photos can also be handed in to the Highland Archive Centre at Bught Road, Inverness, IV3 5RZ marked ‘Inverness Football Memories’.

Any photos which don’t make it into the book will be featured on the Football Memories website.

Project co-ordinator Gordon Fyfe, a director of ICT FC and joint chair of the ICT Community Trust, said: “The Football Memories Project is proving very popular and complements the monthly Memories sessions we hold at Caledonian Stadium on the last Friday of every month.

“The Am Baile website is attracting great numbers of viewers and the publication of the book is a natural second phase of the project.

“It will tell the story of football in Inverness since the first teams were formed in 1885, but it will very much be photo-led and will feature photos of key occasions and some of the local personalities down the ages.

“We hope it will bring back so many memories for football fans.”

Steve Walsh, chief executive of High Life Highland, said: “We are delighted to be partners in the Inverness Football Memories Project, which is proving such a popular feature of the Am Baile website.

“It meets the clear demand for capturing memories of football personalities and occasions down the years.

“The popularity of the project is demonstrated by the fact that the stories we’ve uncovered have attracted 1.4 million views on social media since its launch in May of last year.”
