A popular statue of Nessie in Inverness has lost its head.

The wooden feature at the Dores Road roundabout has become a well-known landmark over the years.

But in recent days, the monster model has not been looking quite as complete, possibly due to deterioration – although Highland Council bosses have said it will be repaired.

"The Nessie feature is concreted into the roundabout," a council spokeswoman said.

"On inspection it is unclear how this happened, although some of the wood has deteriorated.

"Once the wildflowers have died down repairs will be made."
