Nessie gives Paddington Bear a lift as viral Twitter meme hits Loch Ness

Paddington.
Paddington.

Nessie has teamed up with Paddington Bear... thanks to a viral Twitter meme that is delighting people all over the world.

Loch Ness's most famous resident would appear to be something of a fan of darkest Peru's finest export after she was pictured giving the marmalade loving bear "a wee lift" in tens of thousands of Twitter newsfeeds on Thursday morning.

The surprise team-up is all thanks to popular Twitter account Jaythechou's multi-year mission to post Paddington into a "movie, game or TV show image" every day "until I forget".

The account's amusing images of surprising cameos by Paddington in everything from big blockbusters like Jurassic Park to camp 60s classics like the Batman TV show, have won it hundreds of thousands of followers since it first began chronicling the bear's charming fourth-wall breaking antics during the dark days of the Covid pandemic.

At the time, few would have expected the daily antics to still be going, but at more than 950 days and counting, it is now not far off the 1000 day milestone... and shows no signs of stopping.

Notable recent "appearances" by Paddington have – in keeping with October's spooky theme – seen the bear rock up outside Hannibal Lecter's glass prison in Silence of the Lambs, and hang out with Jason Voorhees at Camp Crystal Lake on, you guessed it, Friday the 13th.

And today – presumably thanks to Nessie's status as a cryptid – it was the turn of the Loch Ness Monster to made her long overdue bow.

And she did it in style, giving a diminutive Paddington a lift across the waters of the loch in a rejigged version of the famous Surgeon's Photograph.

We're not sure what the ticket fare was for Paddington's wee jaunt over the iconic waters, but we imagine the marmalade sandwich he always keeps tucked under his red hat may well have come in handy there.

After all, even Nessie probably can't resist a nice marmalade sandwich...
