Swansea Crown Court (PA)

A jury has been sworn in for the trial of a man accused of killing his own brother.

Darren Steel, from Morriston in Swansea, denied murdering his older sibling, Martin Steel, 48, on May 20, 2023.

Steel, 39, appeared in the dock at Swansea Crown Court on Monday, as 14 jurors were sworn in. The jury will be reduced to 12 when the trial gets under way.

He also denies manslaughter of Martin Steel, as well as the wounding with intent and unlawful wounding of Julian Phillips Samuel and two counts of assault on Dawn Michelle Begley.

Martin Steel’s body was found at an address in Hill View Crescent in Clase on May 20, 2023.

The trial is expected to last around three weeks.

The prosecution’s opening statement will be presented to the jury on Tuesday.
