A FLAT on the site of the former Craig Dunain Hospital in Inverness has been named showhome of the year at the Scottish Home Awards.

The honour was one of two which went to developer Robertson Homes – as the Moray-based firm also claimed the top award as housebuilder of the year.

The showhome for properties with a selling price of under £400,000, went to the two-bedroom Muir apartment at Great Glen Hall – Robertson’s name for its Craig Dunain development.

The winning apartment was designed by Jon Pilling of interior designer Abode, who said he was “blown away” the first time he saw the Great Glen development.

“We wanted to create an apartment that enhanced and complemented the stunning architecture of Great Glen Hall,” he said. “It was not just the building and the scale of the works that Robertson had undertaken, but also those stunning views.

“We wanted the interior to feel as calm as the surroundings, and wanted to create the perfect entertaining space in the summer and cosy retreat for the winter.”

Sharon Spinelli, sales and marketing director for Robertson Homes, said: “The listed buildings of Great Glen Hall were built in 1864 of solid stone, with natural slate roofs, towers and crenellations. It’d been a labour of love, and over a decade in planning, to reclaim the full grandeur of the site.

“Not surprisingly, the selection of apartments and townhouses have also been a huge hit with viewers and buyers from near and far.”

In total, the refurbishment of Great Glen Hall is estimated to have cost £13 million and the project spent over 10 years in the design process.

The first residents have now moved into the building.
