NAIRN'S team of Yarnbombers have been hard at work brightening up the town for the town's Book and Arts Festival
Fifteen postboxes are included in the team's Nairn Trail Map which have been decorated with crocheted woollen hats based on the theme 'Myths and Legends of the North'.
Team leader Caroline Mackay has been the inspiration behind the yarnbombing movement in Nairn with her artistic decorations popping up on the postboxes at Christmas time and to commemorate events like the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
"I personally created all 14 Postbox Topper's for the first year during covid," said Caroline, a retired council employee.
"I made them for events like armistice, Christmas and Easter but, and I think it brought a smile to people's faces during what was a very difficult period for everyone.
"But it is too much for one person and I asked for help after the Easter Postbox Topper's were done.
"Thankfully there is now a wee group and on this particular occasion the local Wool Shop has also taken part.
"It is not a competition by any means.
" It's just a way to brighten up the town and hopefully make folk smile in passing.
"The skill levels vary but it is wonderful to try. We have one a lad Andrew Innes who wanted to give it a go and he made a hat for the Queen's Jubilee and has now tried something different for the book festival... a mermaid.
"It's not the winning that's important it's the taking part and we have people of all ages and abilities and hopefully during the festival visitors and locals will have some fun seeking out the post boxes and enjoying the art of the yarnbombers.
"At the Links Postbox there are the 3 Witches of Auldearn. This is an area was known to have witches way back in the 1600's.
"Part of the townhouse topper depicts the most well known witch of all Isobel Gowdie who was a shapeshifter and the legend is she could change into crow or hare. "
Fairies at Dulsie Bridge are the story for the postbox topper opposite Bridgemill Direct and the National Animal for Scotland is the unicorn which is the postbox topper creation up at Tradespark Co-op.
Robert the Bruce's cave and spider's web is the inspiration behind the creation at Achareidh and the legend Kraken, a giant sea monster from the early 1800's is the yarn Topper at the Showfield.
Mermaids, kelpies, the Loch Ness Monster are just some of the other theme embraced by the team
The Book and Arts Festival is 27th August to 4th September.
The Yarnbombers will be doing a wee crochet gift hunt on Saturday 27th August and Sunday 4th September.
