MEMBERS and guests of Nairn u3a (University of the Third Age) gathered at Nairn Community and Arts Centre to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Inverness and Nairn u3a.

It was the region’s first such group, aiming to encourage older people to share their knowledge, skills and interests in a friendly environment. There are no exams and no homework, just regular lessons or study groups.

All present were welcomed by convener Paddy Maher, after which past convener Ann Nicol introduced highlights from the early days of the branch. She also paid tribute to one of the founders and continuing member Ruth Gray.

A collection of photographs and papers amassed from members and archives by group secretary Margaret Patterson were on display.

The event was rounded off with refreshments which included a splendid cake.
