Nairn teenager picked to assist in royal duties

A 16-year old is to assist the Lord Lieutenant of Nairnshire in his duties for the coming year.
Cadet Corporal Darcey Woodman, a 1st Battalion Cadet Corporal, was selected to support George Asher in his duties as His Majesty The King’s appointed representative.
A member of the army cadets for five years, Darcey's new role involves attending events alongside the Lord Lieutenant including those he attends in his capacity as His Majesty The King's Representative to the County of Nairnshire.
A 1st Battalion spokesperson said: "Over her time with the cadets, she has attempted to take part in everything available to a cadet in the ACF.
"She has taken part in several competitions that cadets can enter, such as shooting, and has also represented the Battalion in the ACFA Scotand five-a-side football competition.
"Darcey has even taken advantage of the overseas opportunities available to cadets; in February this year she went to Bavaria in Germany to complete a basic alpine skiing course which also counted towards her 2 Star Cadet Syllabus Training."
It is a year-long appointment.
The 1st Battalion the Highlanders ACF is a youth organisation which provides challenging adventure, sporting and community activities aiming to inspire young people to achieve success in life having fun at the same time.
The Nairn Detachment meets every Tuesday evening at the Cadet Centre on John Street from 7pm-9.15pm.
