THEATRE lovers will be treated to an afternoon of young acting talent as the final of a Scotland-wide youth competition returns to Nairn.

On Saturday, the Nairn Community and Arts Centre will host the youth finals of this year’s Scottish Community Drama Association (SCDA) competition.

Three varied performances will be presented, mixing comedy and drama.

SCDA Scottish chairperson Carolyn Harrison said: “The teams may be amateur but the standard of productions match many a professional performance.”

Teams taking part come from Killin north of Stirling, Blairgowrie in Perthshire and Kirkintilloch in East Dunbartonshire.

The event starts at 5pm and will run through until 9pm, with tickets priced at £12 for adults and £5 for under 18s.

“During the dark winter months, member clubs of the SCDA learn lines, rehearse, paint scenery and make costumes, working together to present their chosen play as part of a national competition.

“Competing firstly in their local area, the winners of that competition progress next to a Regional competition, the winners of which ultimately progressing to the Scottish Final.

“ Teams will be travelling from Killin representing our Eastern Division, Blairgowrie representing our Northern Division and Kirkintilloch representing our Western Division – co-incidentally celebrating their 100th anniversary this year.

“The SCDA is very proud of its long-standing history but are always looking to the future and we hope you’ll join us supporting our very talented young people.”
