A Nairn rowing club is preparing to host their first-ever regatta on Saturday.

The weekend will see Nairn Coastal Rowing Club host six crews from around the Highlands for what promises to be a fierce competition.

Spectators are welcome as the home team will take on Avoch, Ullapool, Strathpeffer, Golspie and Findhorn on the day.

Club chairman Andy Walker said everyone is looking forward to hosting their own event after successfully taking part in a number of competitions throughout the year.

“It’s a lot of planning involved but finally we are almost there,” he said.

“I am relatively new to rowing but it’s a very sociable sport. If you are doing a regatta it is also very competitive, but the great thing about it is that, when you do the race you give 101 per cent, but then you shake hands and go for a beer or a coffee with the other clubs. "

The club – which now counts just under 60 members of all ages – was established in 2017 but, like others, had to suspend its activities during the Covid outbreak before resuming in the aftermath.

The event will run from 10.30am to 4pm at Nairn's Central beach.
