A SYNTHETIC pitch at Nairn Academy is to be restored with work set to begin this month.

The pitch, which was part funded by Nairn Rotary Club’s Nairnshire Challenge Fund and the Davidson Trust, was used by schools and leased to local football clubs, has been out of commission for over two years.

Area chairman Councillor Tom Heggie said the pitch was closed for safety reasons because the synthetic fibres were deteriorating and there was a risk these could be inhaled.

“The pitch received regular maintenance, but the contractor who regularly cleaned it from seagulls said it was done, so it had to be closed,” he said.

“Work will start in July to restore the pitch and we look forward to seeing it being brought back into use.”
